How to live frugally and even save some money
69Frugal living is not something most people want or even enjoy doing. But, with the economy in the state that it is in, many people have been forced into living frugally. For others who have been living frugally all along, they know that sometimes that's what it takes to save money.
Saving money is one of the most important things that you can do for today and the future. Saving money is the key to financial stability and success. If you can live frugally and save money, you will get ahead of the game.
How do you live frugally and save money at the same time? Here are some of the best ways I know to live frugally and save money.
Stay home:
Instead of going out to the clubs or the movies, etc., stay home and entertain there. A movie with popcorn and a drink at the theatre can run about one hundred dollars or more for two people. While staying at home, popping your own popcorn and watching a movie on television, only costs a few bucks. That's a huge savings.
Stop shopping:
Us women, especially, love to shop. Impulse buying happens when we go out and shop for entertainment purposes. If we were honest with ourselves, we would say that we really didn't need all the things we buy while shopping.
Instead, keep a running list of things needed for the household and take a trip to the store once a week just for those needed items. Don't buy anything that's not on the list. Doing this could literally save you thousands of dollars a year.
Cut your services:
Cut off your cable or satellite, even decrease your Internet payment if possible. Nowadays, you can get tons of movies on your antenna for free. If you have a home phone and a cell phone, cut one of them off. Doing this could save you anywhere from 50.00 a month to 160.00 or more a month. That's a great savings!
Decrease utility bills:
Turn down your gas water heater. Shut off lights during the day and only use necessary lighting at night. You can even cut down on the number of showers you take. Cut your showers shorter. Instead of staying in for half an hour, cut your shower time to 10 minutes or less, it can be done!
Say no to your kids:
We seem to have trouble telling our children "no" when it comes to money. But your kids do not need everything they ask for. Just say "no" the next time your child wants that certain toy or candy at the store. You will be surprised how much this stuff adds up.
Saving can take a lot of restraint and discipline, but it can be done. Living frugally can actually be quite fun, when you are always finding different ways to save money while living frugally.
You will thank yourself in the long run. Especially when you get up to retirement age and realize you have actually saved enough to retire on time or even early!
